Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad received his PhD from University of Nottingham, United Kingdom in materials design and materials engineering and he also attended University of Applied Science and Technology, Aalen, Germany for Master’s degree in polymer technology. Dr. Ahmad has worked in reputed international companies/universities at different R&D positions and gained research experience covering a broad spectrum across a wide range of nanomaterials and nanocomposites, with specific interests on their synthesis, functionalities, nanostructure and mechanical properties. He mainly focused on the development of advanced ceramics nanocomposite materials containing carbon nanotubes and graphene and significantly contributed in the challenging areas of nanomaterials dispersion and interfaces in the nanocomposites, which has been recognized by scientific communities worldwide. Dr. Ahmad is an author/co-author of more than 30 research articles in peer reviewed high impact factor journals and reputed international conferences. He is currently working in CEREM (Center of Excellence for Research in Engineering Materials) and focusing on the synthesis and characterization of 0D (nanoparticles), 1D (carbon nanotubes) and 2D (graphene) nanostructures using thermal, solid state and soft-chemistry technology and the nanocomposites fabrication using these novel nanostructures is also a main research focus. The processing parameters, structural features and interfacial reaction that underpin the physical and mechanical properties of these nanocomposites lie in this category. The use of advanced lightweight and highly tough nanocomposites of both ceramics and polymer matrices for advanced engineering applications in aerospace and military products is yet another active research theme to execute in the CEREM Laboratories.
