311 MFS Clinical oral Surgery 1

This course is a series of lectures and clinics extending for one semester.  The course expose students to the oral surgery specialty and help them develop the knowledge, skills and values to become competent in performing minor oral surgery, mainly teeth extraction.
Intended learning outcomes:
At the end of this course the students should be able to:
Demonstrate sound understanding of clinical oral diseases which require surgical intervention and name the different investigations used to reach proper diagnosis and outline the proper surgical treatment plans.
List the medical emergencies which might arise during dental treatment and how can deal with them including emergency drugs.
Apply proper principles of local anesthesia and exodontia techniques. Rule out the medically compromised patients, communicate effectively with patients, draw out a treatment plan and execute it by the help of his instructor.
Identify the forceps, elevators and other instruments used in extraction, how to hold and apply them in practice.
