Corpus Concordances Practice: Comparing different usages of a word
Perform the following four steps:
(a) Open an English dictionary at random, find a word that catches your interest , one that you have never seen or heard used before;
(b) Type the word in Lextutor Corpus Concordance English (v.6.5) <http://lextutor.ca/conc/eng/ >. Choose any Corpus, such as “All of Above 3+m” or “BNC Commerce 2.2 million”. Then click the button “Get concordance”;
(c) Copy and paste only 5 possible usages of this word from the result of your query.
(d) Identify the word sense in each occurrence by translating it into Arabic.
Note: If the result of your query yielded less than 5 usages, repeat
your query using another Corpus or an unfamiliar word.
Don’t forget to write the name of the Corpus you used.
