Evaluating Sustainability Aspects of Existing Buildings Based on ArchiCAD® software
Building information modelling (BIM) has been presented the complexity and productivity of architectural design. The increasing demand of the construction industry generates pressure on the architects from different perspectives such as; time, cost and environment. The aim of this research is to identify the current trends of the BIM model of existing buildings. This led some developers to implement the building information modelling (BIM) in their software which helps architects to generate more accurate, reliable, and informative 3D model. It also facilitated the integration of the model with scheduling and cost control processes. This research exploits the use of a BIM software called "ArchiCAD ® " from an architectural perspective in order to amplify the sustainability measures and potential of existing buildings. To sum up, a case study of schools in Saudi Arabia was pointed out by using ArchiCAD ® to validate the results and to demonstrate the consistency and credibility of the ArchiCAD ® software. It was exemplified that ArchiCAD ® has an advantage over other BIM software with regards to the identification factors and their evaluation from different perspectives of sustainability. The case study is a school located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
