Advanced Economic Analysis-Econ 606
The course covers micro and macroeconomic issues at an advanced level. The aim of this course id to introduce students to advanced topics of economic analysis which are in widespread use and develop the basis for an informed perspective on economic theory and its application. The course content varies from year to year, but examples of micro topics include advanced treatment of demand analysis, consumer theory, theories of the firm, and market structures. Examples of macro theory include: growth theory plus other relevant topics. It is hoped that the course will help to make a foundation for the student which will enable the student better to undertake the tasks of critique of existing theory and construction of alternatives. It is intended to present ideas, techniques and criticisms at a level of sophistication suitable for Ph.D. students aiming ultimately to conduct independent research.
