CE 564: Advanced Solid Mechanics
This course is designed to expand student knowledge and skills in the field of linear and mechanics of solids and its application to structural analysis. On completion of this course students should have sufficient knowledge of the mechanics of solids to enable them to solve advanced practical problems.
The course will specifically address the following topics: 3D stress and strain tensors, 3D stress and strain transformation and principal stresses and strains, conditions of plane stress and plane strain, equilibrium equations, compatibility equations, Torsion of non-circular solid sections and hollow and open thin-walled sections; Shear Centre; Shear deformations in beams; Unsymmetrical bending: Theories of failure; Analysis of Curved bars; Beams on elastic foundations.
