A continuation of the Clinical Dental Hygiene I and II course.
(Clinical Dental Hygiene I: Clinical study and practice of oral prophylaxis techniques including: proficient use of scalers and curettes, patient education and counseling procedures.
Clinical Dental Hygiene II: Clinical practice including the treatment of special patient populations, introduction to the ultrasonic scaling devices and individualized patient counseling and management.)
DEH 442 Weekly Outline (other than the clinical care of patients):
Week 1: Group discussion covering the outline for the case presentation, the criteria for case selection and the distribution of course grades
Week 2: Periodontal diagnosis and screening
Week 3: Radiographic interpretation
Week 4: Ultrasonic scaling
Week 5: Treatment of hypersensitivity and irrigation
Week 6: Medically compromised patients
Week 7: 4 students present their case presentation
Week 8: 4 students present their case presentation
Week 9: 4 students present their case presentation
Week 10: 4 students present their case presentation
