213 RDS Pre-Clinical Operative Dentistry

 

This course focuses on the principles of cavity preparation for the currently available restorative materials and the physical manipulative characteristics of restorative materials and cavity restoration. This course prepares the students to provide the major portion of dental care to their patients by simulating the clinical setting for cavity preparation and restoration and performing standardized exercises on typodont jaw models mounted on mannequins.

The main purpose of this course is to prepare the students to be promoted to the clinic and treat patients the following year. At the end of the course, students should be able to describe the principles of cavity preparations for the currently available restorative materials as well as understand the physical characteristics of these materials. They should also be able to match the various restoring techniques with different cavity preparations and prepare the tooth according to the universally accepted guidelines.
