CHEM 542- Selected Topic

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the principles and applications of stereoselective synthesis, a cornerstone of modern organic chemistry, particularly in the pharmaceutical and natural product fields. Building upon foundational knowledge of stereochemistry, this course examines the factors that control the stereochemical outcome of organic reactions . Students will delve into the concepts of stereoelectronic effects, conformational analysis, and the use of chiral auxiliaries, reagents, and catalysts to achieve desired stereoisomers. The course will cover a range of reaction types, including substitutions, additions, eliminations, and pericyclic reactions, with a strong emphasis on understanding and predicting stereoselectivity.
