1. INTRODUCTION:

The diagnosis of skin diseases is deceptively easy. Doctor’s examine or are shown patients every day in clinical rotations. Almost every patient has some skin abnormality. This course will enable students to identify these abnormalities and to manage them. We work to make this course useful and enjoyable. To achieve maximum benefit of the course, a development committee in dermatology department revisits the curriculum each year and makes the necessary changes.
 
2. OBJECTIVES:

1.     To understand the basics of skin anatomy.
2.     To be familiar with the language of dermatology by learning the primary and secondary skin lesions and to be able to describe various skin conditions.
3.     To enable medical students to recognize the most common skin diseases and to manage them.
4.     To be familiar with the diagnostic laboratory tests pertinent to dermatology.
5.     To help students to formulate decent differential diagnoses of skin diseases.
6.     To gain an over view of the skin manifestations of systemic diseases.
7.      To be able to deal very appropriately with different emergencies in dermatologic diseases. 
 
3. TEACHING METHODOLOGY:

The course lasts for 6 weeks for the current curriculum. It contains 8 extended lectures that cover the most important dermatological topics which fulfill the required objectives.
Each lecture lasts 2 hours in which a faculty member covers the theoretical part of the topic followed clinical discussion assisted with slide pictures.

 

4. STUDENTS ASSESSMENT: 

I.             ATTENDANCE: Attending the lectures were found to be of great importance in understanding the course, thereby it has been decided to give one mark for attending every lecture to a maximum of 10 marks. The attendance is taken by the faculty members.

II.           EXAMS: 1.Continuous Assessment exam consist of single best and matching questions that count of no more than 30% of the total marks.
 
2. Final exam consist of single best and matching questions that count of no more than of total 70% marks

III.       The passing marks is 60 out of 100
