 Course Code: NUR 473                        

Course Title: Primary Health Care Nursing.

Credit Hours: (1+4)

 

I.   Course Description:

           An overview of this course which provides students with both theoretical knowledge and clinical experience related to concepts of primary health care to individuals attending primary health care centers. This course will focus on the health-illness continuum pattern in order to emphasize the importance of health promotion and disease prevention. The course will include units about maternal and child health care, environmental sanitation, prevention and control of communicable and chronic diseases, nutritional assessment as well as health education. The course will include common diseases and other health problems in the community.

 

II. Course Objectives:

    Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

 

Knowledge:

 1-Define the concept of primary health care, mention its principles and elements.

2- Identify the different methods of health education.

3-Identify the basic health needs for both mothers and children.

(During period of pre-marital, pregnancy, delivery, post natal, and children under 5 years of life).

4-Identify the importance of environmental sanitation and its factors which affect health.

5-Identify the important of community nutrition and how to assess of nutritional status for individual and family members and groups in the community.

6- Identify the important of interviewing clients, recording and reporting systems.

 

Cognitive Skills:

 1-Assess the health needs of individuals, plan and implement actions to meet their needs.

2- Evaluate care provided to individuals.

3-Provide preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care to mothers, infants, children, as well as adults and elders in the community.

4-Refer individuals to appropriate community health resources when necessary.

5-Give health education classes to individuals, and groups according to their needs.
