MIS 354 - Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are now the norm in all types of businesses. Familiarity with such systems is therefore essential both in its own right and as preparation for any future career in business. This course provides the students with a broad understanding of the fundamental concepts of ERP systems and explains their strategic, tactical, operational influences on businesses. It introduces the ERP functionalities and capabilities in contrast to the unintegrated information systems. It defines the business functional areas, processes, ERP development history, and enabling technologies. It also discusses the pros and cons of implementing an ERP system and the benefits of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems, and accounting and management-reporting as useful extensions of ERP software. In addition, it introduces the development of event process chain (EPC) diagrams of basic business processes and the development of processes improvement suggestions.
