This course will focus on the metabolism of the macronutrients in the body. Students will have a comprehensive understanding of cell reactions at the tissue and organs This course will focus on nutrition as a science that integrates biochemistry from the cellular level through the integration and regulation of metabolism in the whole organism and how it relates to nutritional health.
Objectives
- Students will develop an understanding of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism
- Students will develop an understanding of regulation of metabolism
- Students will be able to explain the metabolism interrelationship between macronutrients.
- Students will develop an understanding the biochemistry and metabolism of the macronutrients during different physiological states
- Students will develop the ability to analyze and evaluate currents articles/reviews related to the topics of course
Text : Gropper, S.S , Smith J.L and Groff, J.L : Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism, International Student edition . Wadsworth Thomson Learning, 2005
Other References : Current reviews in professional and scientific journals/publications will be used and will be assigned as required reading
