Course Description:
This course provides basics, working principles and applications of equipment utilized in laboratories. The course will shed the light on many laboratory equipment for conducting experiments such as incubators, centrifuges, and liquid handlers. Furthermore, this course will go over data acquisition technologies such as chromatography, microscopy and spectrophotometry.
Course Objectives:
- To familiarize students on equipment, instruments and latest technologies used in clinical laboratories.
- Prepare students for future jobs that require basic knowledge of laboratory equipment.
Teaching strategies:
Multiple teaching methods will be utilized to produce interactive two-way educational environment. Traditional face-to-face lectures will be given to provide basic concepts. Additionally, homework and final project will be requested as a feedback of the learning process of students. For the practical portion, students will be exposed to laboratory equipment and they will perform hands-on experiments to learn basic procedures and skills required to operate such equipment.
