Course: ARCH 416 Building Construction II
1st semester 1435/36

Course Objectives

  1. Introduce the student to the secondary building elements and the principles of their design
  2. Train the student to select the appropriate components and finishes for the building.
  3. Select environmentally sustainable elements for building envelope.

 
Course Contents

  1. Dimensional coordination and application to building elements and components. 
  2. Secondary elements and components of buildings, their properties; the materials used and assembly and fixing procedures.
  3.  Demountable partitions, functional requirements, types and properties.
  4.  Suspended ceilings, functional requirements, types and properties.
  5.  Raised floors, types and properties.
  6. Openings: doors and windows, types, functional requirements and assembly details.
  7. External facing and cladding with stone, precast-concrete panels, and various types of curtain walls.
  8. Types and properties of Floor, Wall and Ceiling finishes.
  9. Thermal insulation and damp-proofing to walls and roofs.

 
Evaluation and Grading
·      20 %     Mid–term Test
·      40 %     Practical exercises & projects
·      40 %     Final examination
