8. Introduction:
In this course, the student gains knowledge of the use of computer aided design technology. This is mainly achieved through teaching the student the advanced potentials of various programs, mainly AutoCAD 2006, in preparing accurate and high quality architectural and planning drawings. In addition, the course focuses on training the student other related programs, such as Photoshop and Power Point that enable him to present his ideas and concept in a professional manner.
10. Course’s overall objectives:
The course’s main objective is to introduce the students to computer aided design technologies that will develop the student’s skills and abilities in presenting and finalizing the projects giving to him as part of the Architecture and Planning Departments’ curriculum

PL 235 is one of the courses that students in both Architecture and Planning Departments benefit from.
12. Subjects covered in the course:
PL 235 focuses on teaching the student the use of AutoCAD and its advanced capabilities in the preparation of various projects, which includes the ability to carry out modifications and amendments to drawings. In addition, this course is based on introducing the student to supplementary other computer tools that enable the preparation presentations including Photoshop and Power Point. The courses various stages are as follows:
I. Introduction:
· General background to software that will be used in the course in particular AutoCAD.
· General description to AutoCAD interface.
· Conceptual explanation to Model and Paper Space, the use of mvsetup, Multi view ports and Multi views.
· World Coordinate and User Coordinate Systems.
II. AutoCAD Basics
· Entity Draw Commands
· Drawing Aids
· Edit & Modify Commands
· Object Snap
· Entity Grips
· Layer, Colours, and Linetypes
· Text
· Dimensioning
· Hatching
· Inquiry Commands
· Dialogue Boxes

III. Working with 3D Models
· Vpoint, Dview, 3D Orbit
· 3D Objects, Solids and Surfaces
· Hide, Shade, Lights, Materials and Render
IV. Preparation of image files
· The use of scanners
· The use of Photoshop in retouching the image and controlling its size
· The insertion of images (maps and other images) into AutoCAD drawings files
· Scaling and tracing over the image
V. The preparation of drawings for presentation
· Students learn the use of Powerpoint for presenting their ideas and projects
13. The proposed method for teaching is through the direct interaction with the students and is based on explanation and application of various commands and drawing options of different exercises that cover various aspects of computer graphics.
14. The course evaluation system is based on carrying out different quizzes, mid term exam, term report (includes all the exercises done by the student throughout the semester). Final examination is also carried out at the end of the semester that evaluates the graphics skills the students gained through the semester.
15. One mid term examination will be carried out on the ninth week of the semester. Also, five unscheduled quizzes (last for 10 minutes) will be implemented throughout the semester aim at testing the students skills at different stages of the course.

· Attendance and follow up during tutorials 10%
· Unscheduled quizzes 10%
· Mid term examination 20%
· Term report 20%
· Final Examination 60%
