Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Courses                                                                                                  

The didactic and clinical courses offered by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery begin at the second year. The science of local anesthesia and exodontia is the first course given as the first course and includes description of  methods of pain control and anesthesia with special  importance to handling medical emergencies. This course also describe  the art and science of teeth extraction regardless of their difficulties. All these topics necessitate a strong background in physiology, biochemistry and dental anatomy.

In the third year, the oral surgery in general practice covers almost all aspects of oral surgery and some important consideration given to special topics of maxillofacial surgery. The clinical training  offered by oral surgery clinics under the supervisions of experienced faculty staff and specialists in the field and runs weekly by instructing dental students how to do both simple and complicated extractions.

The clinical oral surgery course is offered in the fourth year and the didactic part covers the important types of maxillofacial surgery procedures including sedation and general anesthesia, trumatology, TMJ surgery, salivary glands diseases and the management of medical compromised patients. The clinical training takes students into more advanced surgical procedures and weekly hospital rotations with hands-on instruction is emphasized.

In the final year and as part of the comprehensive dental course the student offered a revision of the important and difficult topics in oral and maxillofacial surgery such as surgery of TMJ, salivary gland surgery and diagnosis and management of lumps and masses of the neck. They also learn other alternative techniques in pain control and how to do IM, IV injections and other emergency procedures like cricothyrotomies etc. The clinical training in this course runs parallel with other dental specialties during a comprehensive management of dental patients.
