Course Description
This is an introductory course designed to develop students' oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential for life and work. Students will learn communication principles, strategies, and methods through discussions, exercises, and examples. They will be trained in how to communicate clearly and effectively in various social, business, and intercultural situations. In addition, they will learn and practice verbal, nonverbal, and electronic communication.
Course Objectives
After completing this course, students should be able to:
- understand the major principles, methods, and media of communication;
- communicate clearly and effectively in various social, business and intercultural situations;
- communicate clearly and effectively using various oral communication strategies and methods;
- listen effectively to others for the purpose of understanding;
- create individual/team formal presentations for academic and business purposes and situations;
- write clear and effective business communications, such as memos, reports, e-mails, cover letters and CV's;
- work effectively with others in small groups or teams;
- understand and negotiate the difference in communication between one's culture and other cultures.
