COURSE DESCRIPTION
Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is the study of applications of the computer in language teaching and learning). This course aims to give students a broad general view of computer-enhanced language learning. Students will be introduced to the use of basic application software packages such as word processing, e-mail, MS Power Point and Internet resources as tools in teaching English as a foreign language. The classes will develop through hands on, task-based assignments, reviews, projects, and presentations. The participants will evaluate websites/software packages and use them as the base for all their teaching practice activities and their final project and e-portfolios. On completion of this subject, students should have a solid understanding of modern technology and its impact on L2 learning and teaching. They should also be able to apply this knowledge to TEFL teaching, and the development of electronic materials. By the end of this course you are expected to:

Understand the general principles of Computer Assisted Language Learning and its application in EFL instruction.

Learn terminologies and basic concepts related to Computer Assisted Language Learning.

Evaluate current CALL materials (software packages/websites) for use in second and foreign language learning.

Develop new technology-based activities and adapt existing CALL materials to suit the needs of ESL/EFL language learners.

Attendance &participation |
Regular attendance is crucial. An absence will be excused only for good reasons. The instructor must be notified of your absence in advance. Participation in the class including asking questions, answering questions, sharing information, and so on, is also required. Assessment is based on the number of attendance and quality of your contributions to the class. This means that you should ask questions, give thoughtful comments, and raise critical problems or issues.

Each student is required to design a lesson plan on one of the language skills (Speaking/Listening/Reading/Writing) using one of the computer related technologis and present it on front of the class. |
