This thesis deals with theoretical and experimental investigations into the breakdown and pre-breakdown discharge characteristics of sulfur-hexafluoride (SF6) and its mixtures with N2 gas for applications in compressed gas insulated transmission lines (CGITL) and other high voltage apparatus.
