Credit Hours (1+1)

Syllabus:

Problems on concentrations, biochemical buffers and other types of solutions including acids and bases. General calculations used in spectrophotometric and radioactive measurements. Miscellaneous quantitations of some structural and functional aspects of macromolecules.

Ionization of Water, pH and pOH. Activity and activity coefficient. Neutralization and titration of strong acids and bases.

Problems on pH, pOH, neutralization and titration.

Dissociation constant, Henderson-Hasselbalch Equation and its derivation.

Problems on Henderson-Hasselbalch Equation.

Buffers, definition and types. Polyprotic acids.

Problems on buffers.

The titration curves of H3PO4 and aspartic acid, pK, pI.

Centrifugation, principles and computations.
