Other material: A4 sheets of paper and/or MS Word

Course Description:

This course will walk the students through all the steps of writing beginning with brainstorming for ideas and ending with writing the final draft. Students will learn the grammar and cohesive skills which are necessary to produce an academic paragraph or essay.

Students' Work:

Students will be given writing assignments and vocabulary and spelling quizzes throughout the semester. They will also be expected to do some peer-editing as well as other editing exercises.

Assignments must be turned in before 6 p.m. on the day they are due. 10% will be deducted for everyday ( or part of a day) the assignment is late.

All assignments and quizzes MUST be on A4 sheets of paper. If you choose not to hand in a hard copy for your assignments, it should be sent to my e-mail as an MS Word attachment.

Midterms:

There will be 2 midterms which will include editing exercises and essay writing. The 1st in-term exam will be held on May 4th during class hours, and the 2nd will be on June 8th during class hours.

Grading:

  • Participation: 5%

  • Homework: 5%

  • Quizzes: 5%

  • Midterms: 35%

  • Final Exam: 50%

Note:

There will be NO make-up participation marks, homework, quizzes, or midterms. Under exceptional circumstances and with appropriate written documentation (such as a doctor’s note), there will be a make-up exam which will include everything covered during the semester.
