Course Overview
The material of this course is developed for a first course in IT/Software Project Management in the department of Computer Science or Information Systems. The nine chapters of this course represent a solid introduction to the basics and core functions of IT/Software Project Management. Recent statistics of software projects shows that only 28% are successfully completed; consequently, there is a pressing need to adopt Software Project Management best practices to maximize the success rate. o deliver a successful project, students need to understand the core and facilitating functions of IT/Software Project Management. The structure of the course is based around the core and facilitating functions that a project manger has to deal with. The course is organized into nine chapters covering the following topics: chapter 1 introduces the topic of project management, chapter 2 discusses the triple constrains, chapter 3 presents project knowledge areas. Integration management is discussed in chapter 4. Scope and Time management are discussed in chapters 5 and 6, respectively. Chapters 7 and 8 deal with Cost management, and Cost estimation, while chapter 9 introduces project Quality management issues.
