Course Goals and Objectives: To develop a basic understanding of (i) chemical bonding and internal structure of minerals, (ii) principles of crystallography, (iii) techniques used for identification of minerals, (2) To develop the ability to identify minerals in hand-specimen and thin section; (3) To understand the different processes of mineral formation; and (4) to develop some appreciation for the application of mineral science to everyday life.
 
Textbook: Introduction to Mineralogy" by William Nesse
Course Grading: Your grade in the course will be based on the following distribution of work

Exam 1 10 %
In-class Quizzes 5 %
Home works/Assignments 5 %
Lab assignments 30 %
Exam 2 10 %
Final Exam 40 %
