introduction/brief CV

Ziyad Binkhathlan, BPharm, RPh, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, King Saud University. He received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (with a specialization in Pharmacokinetics/Nanomedicine) from the University of Alberta, Canada. He served as a Consultant to the Department of Bioequivalence at the SFDA in the period 2015-2019. He also served as a Member of the Advisory Committee for Generic and Biosimilar Products, SFDA (2018-2019), and then as a Deputy Chair of this committee (2020-date). In the period 2016-2019, he worked as a Visiting Professor at Prof. Lavasanifar’s lab (University of Alberta) with a main research focus to develop nano formulations (based on polymeric micelles) for oral and ocular drug delivery with the aim to enhance the solubility and permeability of drugs (BCS class II-IV). Dr. Binkhathlan served in many administrative and managerial positions including Director of the Research Center at the College of Pharmacy, KSU (2014-2016), Vice-Dean for Development and Quality at the College of Pharmacy, KSU (2015-2016), and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics (2019-date). Dr. Binkhathlan has over 25 publications in the fields of Pharmacokinetics/Nanomedicine/Drug Delivery, and has two patents/patent applications on excipients/drug delivery. He is currently a member of the Advisory Scientific Committee at the SFDA, and Associate Editor for the Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal (SPJ).
