CE 435: Railway Engineering

The main purpose of this course is to provide the student the required knowledge and analysis experiences in the field of railway transportation systems and its related issues. The course contents includes: Introduction to railway transport systems, railway terminologies, Railways in Saudi Arabia, dynamic aspects of train motion (train speed, power, and acceleration requirements), track components, vertical and horizontal alignments, railway yards, stations and platforms, and railway traffic control and signaling.
The course learning objectives include:
1. Recognize rail transport systems.
2. Analyze the aspects of train motion.dynamics
3. Identify Rail track components, various elements and synthesis of railway yards and stations.
4. Determine geometric design of railway track.
5. Define the main concepts of railway signaling.
