Since obtaining Ph.D. from McMaster University - Canada in 1994, I have spent more than 25 years gaining wide spectrum of experiences and skills through different well-balanced activities. These activities involve academic and administration responsibilities, research achievements, professional consultations and developments as well as community services. The academic responsibilities include teaching different undergraduate and graduate courses in different universities, supervising capstone design projects, M.Sc. and Ph,D. students, as well as contributing in national and international academic accreditation activates at both program and university levels. In addition, I carried out different administration responsibilities through the involvement in different departmental and college committees. Research achievements include contribution to research projects and patents as well as publishing more than 50 research publications in well-known journals and international conferences. Through more than 35 years, wide varieties of professional and consultation activities were achieved through the involvement in designing, and reviewing major projects in Egypt and Saudi Arabia through different organizations, as well as contributing in Saudi Code developments. As part of the responsibilities to the community, several activities were achieved that include, reviewing research publications for different journals, evaluating research works for faculty promotions, assessing and evaluating academic programs for national accreditation, and acting as a professional expert in providing and evaluating PE and FE exams.

The Ph.D. program included experimental and analytical research work resulted in a thesis titled by "Behavior of Blind Bolted Moment Connections for Square HSS Columns". A newly developed bolted moment connection for hollow section columns was studied experimentally and analytically

More than 30 years of experience in teaching different undergraduate and postgraduate courses in different universities.   The teaching experiences were greatly enhanced by including;

Active member in the research project sponsored by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology- KACST; National Science, Technology and Innovation plans. Project title “Development of Strain-Hardening Cement-Based Composites with Short Polymer Fibers for Hot-Weather Concreting Utilizing Local Materials” The total budget project is 1.5 million SR. The project resulted 6 ISI papers, 7 international reviewed and 2 US patents.

  • Rehabilitation of Reinforced Concrete Columns using Ferrocement Jackets, 2007-2009 (SR 45,000).

  • Post-earthquake damage assessments for buildings using the system identification method.

Active member in the Structural Reviewing Committee for the New Holly Haram Extension Project in Makkah- Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that is organized and supervised by the Ministry of Education.. The review includes the structural analysis, design and detailed drawings of the mega project.

Active member in the structural committee for assessing and evaluating the Old Holly Haram in Makkah- Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that is organized and supervised by the Ministry of Education. Working as a member in the Center in many projects  but not limited to;

  • Designing the administration Buildings for the Egyptian Ministry of Interior at 6th  October City, the project costs about 80 million Egyptian pounds and consists of a main building, Social building, soldier building and sports building.
  • Preparing Structural evaluation reports of different existing structures, such as residential buildings, administration buildings, schools and factories, in order to strengthen and retrofit the structural element to support the expecting excessive loads.
  • Reviewing the design and calculation sheets for newly constructed projects in Egypt, as a part of an approval procedure for issuing the insurance certificate.

Regional Technical Support  at Middle East for SAFI Software Inc. (Canada)

 

Providing technical support and training engineers on the structural software (SAFI), that is originated from Canada and is specialized in structural analysis, design and evaluation of different structures as concrete, steel structures and bridges, electric towers and substations. In addition, participating in the technical development and enhancing the software based on the customer requests to include the Egyptian design codes in SAFI, as well as conducting continuous training sessions for engineers at different authorities and companies for any upgrades on the software.

Consultant Structural Design Office, Nasr City, Cairo-Egypt

Title : Senior Structural Engineer

Participated in designing several major projects constructed in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, including but not limited to;

  • Girl s College at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project included classrooms, lecture halls, auditorium, cafeteria, 2-story library, connecting tunnels between buildings, and miscellaneous details.
  • Industrial Steel Structures, involving steel frames, trusses, bracings and connections, constructed in Saudi Arabia Harbors.
  • Judo Hall at El-Shams Sporting Club (reinforced concrete frames covered with space steel trusses), constructed in Cairo-Egypt.
  • 15-story residential concrete building (with a total area of 1.4 million meter square) constructed on a raft foundation, Cairo-Egypt.
  • Different Commercial Malls constructed in Egypt, such as Royal Center and City Center at Elharam Street.

Duties and responsibilities included conducting structural analysis (static and dynamic), designing and evaluating reinforced concrete and steel structures, using both working stress design and limit states design methods using different Codes of practices
