Introduction

Welcome to my academic profile! I am Dr. Najla Abdullah Aldughayem, an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at King Saud University. Holding a Ph.D. from Oxford Brookes University, my academic journey has been driven by a deep passion for American and Transatlantic Literature, with a particular focus on iconic figures like Edgar Allan Poe and the complexities of 20th-century literature.

Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, I am committed to fostering a stimulating and inclusive learning environment. My teaching philosophy centers around nurturing critical thinking, encouraging a deep engagement with literary texts, and cultivating an appreciation for diverse literary traditions. I strive to connect literature with its broader cultural and historical contexts, making it relevant and accessible to students of all backgrounds.

Research Interests

My research interests are multifaceted, ranging from American and Transatlantic Literature to the intricate realms of Literary Theory and Criticism. I am particularly fascinated by psychoanalysis in literature and the reception of literary works. My ongoing scholarly exploration includes delving into Genre and Form, with an emphasis on Fiction, Short Stories, and Gothic Fiction. Additionally, I have a keen interest in Regional Literature Studies, focusing on Saudi and Arab Gulf Literature, and I am actively engaged in the field of Literary Translation.

Community Engagement and Contributions

At King Saud University, I actively participate in various academic and cultural committees, contributing to the enrichment of our academic community. My participation in various university-wide projects underscores my commitment to collaborative improvement and innovation in academia, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive educational community.  I am also deeply committed to outreach and community service, providing expertise in academic writing and conducting workshops on skills development.

Personal Interests

Beyond my professional pursuits, I am driven by a passion for understanding and analyzing the intricate connections between different literary cultures and epochs. This passion not only fuels my research but also informs my approach to teaching, where I aim to instill a similar curiosity and appreciation for literature in my students.
