Description of General Teaching Methods Course (curr518)

2 credit hours

The course provides students with the General Diploma in Education in all their specializations. The course is concerned with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand teaching, its foundations, pillars, elements and types. The course deals with the derivation and formulation of general and specific teaching objectives for each specialization, the principles and methods of general teaching, and field and applied work in the field of teaching so that the student acquires some teaching skills and prepares Lessons, teaching aids, and preparation of tests that can be used to evaluate student achievement. Teaching depends on scientific discussions, collaborative activities, and lectures, and seeks to provide opportunities for fruitful thinking and learning.

The course aims at making the student understand the general methods of teaching that is all the different aspects that make up for efficient and effective teaching and learning processes. It is hoped that these will be achieved by introducing you to:

  • The teacher and the child
  • Lesson Plan preparation
  • The various teaching methods
  • The art of classroom management
  • Question and questioning techniques
  • Test and examination (Evaluation)
  • Marking and Assignments
  • Study skills (ix) Audio-visual Aids.

  • Providing the student with the objectives of teaching in the different educational stages
  • Introduce the student to behavioral objectives and formulate them
  • Enlightening the student with planning for teaching and preparing daily lessons
  • Provide the student with general methods of teaching
  • Training the student to formulate class questions
