Course description
- General structural and functional properties of natural and synthetic membranes.- 

Function and properties of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates of biomembranes.

Solubilization and fractionation of biomembranes.

Fluid mosaic model.

Types of transport across biomembranes.

Calculation of energy change in each case.

Composition and function of the different types of cellular membranes: Membranes of erythrocytes, intestinal mucosa, renal tubules, muscle cells, mitochondria, nerve cells, retinal cells and bacterial cells.

Types and properties of signal and signal transduction.

Biosynthesis and assembly of membranes.
