Welcome to the personal website of Professor Dr. Bandar Ali Al-Asbahi.
areas of expertise
My main research interests include:
1. Nanocomposite Thin Films for Optoelectronics
The core of this research is the development of sophisticated thin-film materials. The work specializes in creating hybrid nanocomposites—such as polymer matrices embedded with metal oxide nanostructures or perovskite crystals—to achieve synergistic properties that are unattainable with a single material. These films serve as the active layer in a variety of devices.
2. Photophysics of Donor/Acceptor Systems
A fundamental understanding of how energy moves within a material is crucial. This research investigates exciton dynamics, Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET),and charge separation processes in carefully designed donor/acceptor systems. This knowledge directly informs materials synthesis and device engineering efforts.
3. Device Fabrication & Characterization
The research bridges the gap from materials to functional systems through state-of-the-art device fabrication and characterization.
Lighting & Displays: Fabrication of efficient and stable Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs).
Photovoltaics: Development of high-performance solar cell architectures.
Energy Storage: Innovation in thin-film designs for supercapacitors and batteries.
4. Towards Optical Gain and Lasing
A key frontier of this work is engineering the photophysical properties of nanocomposites to achieve optical gain and laser emission. This involves designing materials with low lasing thresholds and high stability under intense optical pumping.
The tuning of photophysical properties of the poly[2-methoxy-5-(3,7-dimethyl-octyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene]—end capped with dimethylphenyl (DMP), MDMO-PPV–DMP, was achieved by incorporation of…
