PHC 552 Spectroscopic Methods for Identification of Pharmaceutical Compounds

The course concerns with the study of the principles and techniques of infrared (IR), mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), ultraviolet (UV) and fluorescence spectroscopy as well as X-ray Crystallography and their application in identification and characterization of pharmaceutical compounds. The main objective of this course is to assist in developing the ability of the students to interpret spectra and to use the information in structure elucidation. The practical part comprises sample preparation, instrumental demonstration and spectral analysis of the compounds containing various functional groups using different spectroscopic techniques and the interpretation of their spectra.
