1st In-Term Exam

 

u Write a 5 - paragraph example essay, of no less than 400 words, on ............     (25 points)

Remember the following:

1) Regarding titles:

   A. Don't put things like " * -- or any other symbols around the title

   B. Make sure your titles are attractive, yet grammatically correct!

   C. Punctuate the title correctly; e.g. This is wrong:

                                    How to be relaxed in exams?

2) Regarding the thesis statement:

   A. It should not be too long

   B. It should be one complete sentence!

   C. The supporting ideas should be distinct and parallel.

3) Don't forget to use suitable, attractive transitions in your body paragraphs.

4) Don't put smiley faces J in your essay - I love them but your essays are not the right place for them!

5) Don't throw around unsupported information like "some research states..." What reseach??? Punctuate quotations accurately!

6) Pay special attention to the conclusion. It’s the part that sticks in the readers mind.

   Use either a dramatic/interesting/funny story introduction or a surprising facts introduction.

   (B) Give your introduction an interesting, grammatically correct title

   Write a well-developed conclusion for the following outline:

 

    QUESTION 4: Writing Well-Developed Body Paragraphs (7.5 pts)

   The introduction, along with the thesis statement, is provided below.

   (A) Write a well-developed point-by-point contrastive or comparative (Note: In the exam paper, we will specify which; contrastive or comparative) paragraph, as the first body paragraph, that logically follows the introduction and thesis.

   (B) Write an attractive, grammatically correct title.

 

    QUESTION 5: Editing (5 pts): Edit the following paragraph.

   Look for 10 mistakes only in punctuation, capitalization, transition words and connectors.
