ESSAY WRITING GUIDELINES

Please note the following before you hand in your essays:

(1) ALL ESSAYS SHOULD BE TYPED or NEATLY HANDWRITTEN IN BLACK or BLUE INK.

(2) Your 5-paragraph essay must have an interesting title and you must follow the specific format of the particular essays we discuss in each chapter. Each paragraph should be indented (leave 5-7 spaces at the beginning of each paragraph).

(3) Do a word count using your “tools” icon on your computer screen. Highlight your essay, Press “tools” then press “Word Count”. You should have approximately 400 - 450 words. A bit shorter or longer is not a problem. If you are hand writing your essay, then please also do a quick word count.

(4) As for checking your essays, I will read them and comment on your strengths and weaknesses. The more you write, the better you will be prepared for your in-term exams and final exam.

(5) When you are ready to submit your essay , please either give it to me in class or put it on my desk (not in the file). Once I’ve checked your essays, you can take your essays from your group’s file.
