Welcome to the Grammar (2) Course!

Course Description In this course, tenses are reviewed, but the remainder of the semester is used to concentrate on an intensive study of nouns and articles, phrasal verbs, simple, compound and complex sentences, the forms of comparison and the passive voice. The grammar points are taught in terms of the communicative functions targeted for each unit. Communicative tasks are used to get students to speak to each other, or question and answer each other. The activities include in pair or in group work.

Grade Distribution                                                                                                                                                  1st In-term: 25                                                                                                                                                        2nd In-term: 25                                                                                                                                                      Final Exam: 50

Required Material                                                                                                                                                   (1) Interaction 2: Grammar                                                                                                                                        (2) Download handouts given in class (whichever ones you don’t have) as instructed

Students' Responsibilities                                                                                                                                      (1) Study each lesson thoroughly after it has been given in class. You should not try to cram all the information one day before the exam as this will result, more than likely, in poor performance.                                                                     (2) Do as many exercises as you can at home and check your answers to see how well you did.                                       (3) You should make sure that you know ALL the information from the Grammar 1 course, and are able to easily apply the grammatical rules taken in the courses.                                                                                                                       (4) You are responsible for checking this site at least once a week, and whenever you are asked to in class.                     (5) You MUST sign-up in the nicenet.org website [see directions below].

Nicenet.org                                                                                                                                                              In order to facilitate better communication between all of us, please try to keep yourself updated by regularly checking out our Grammar (2) Internet Classroom Assistant at: www.nicenet.org The Class Key is: ____________ This website allows me to send all of you messages that are sent right to your e-mails. It also allows you to send personal messages to my e-mail. Please don't hesitate to ask any question(s) and I'll try to reply as soon as possible.

Attendance & Medical Excuses                                                                                                                              (1) Regular attendance is a MUST!!! Your personal or medical excuses will not be taken into consideration when presenting the warnings. Medical excuses will be investigated by Mrs. Jawaher Al-Ghanaam when presenting the banning lists. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you NEVER exceed the 50% absence limit! (2) If you have a medical excuse for being absent, photocopy it, write your name and class group clearly on it, and put it in the "Medical Excuses" file on my desk, in my office. Don't give it to me in class. These official excuses will be verified later by Mrs. Al-Jawaher at the end of this semester. (3) Attendance will usually be taken 10 minutes after class starts. If you arrive later, come in and attend the rest of the lecture. Being late 3 times will equal to being absent one time.

Being absent for an exam... Do not be absent for the in-term exams because there will be absolutely no make up exams. If you have an extreme medical reason for being absent, you will need to present official verification of your medical situation, and then each individual case will be dealt with accordingly. The make-up exam (for those who miss the 1st or 2nd in-term exams) will only be held once on ___________________________. This date is final and cannot be changed. You must bring a copy of your medical excuse with you on the day of the exam even if I have already seen it. If you also miss the make-up exam, you will get a “zero” and not be given another chance to take the make-up exam.
