Comparative Culture Essay and Class Presentation

The Class Presentation is worth (7 pts) and the essay is worth (3 pts); a total of (10 points). You will see your grade on-line Week 15. All the students will have finished their class presentations by then. It’s only fair that everyone see their grades at the same time.

Comparative Culture Essay (3 points)

Choose any aspect of culture (e.g. fashion, freedom, hospitality, weddings, etc.), show why you chose this particular aspect, explain the differences and/or similarities found in the way that Arabs (e.g. Saudis) and the people of ANY OTHER CULTURE perceive or deal with this cultural aspect. Also show which you prefer; the way Arabs perceive/deal with this feature of culture or the people of the other culture, and why. The essay should be typed, 2-3 pages long (or longer if you want), and you can provide illustrations if you want. This is YOUR work… be as creative as you want! Submit this essay either on the day of the deadline or before. If you submit it after the deadline, for ANY reason, you will get a zero.

Class Presentation (7 points)

Choose any topic you're interested in from the previous lesson Taken in class. Your presentation should be about 5 minutes long. You SHOULD NOT read your presentations (i.e. cut, paste, & read) ...NO!!! You only need to introduce your topic, why you chose that particular issue, and present a summary of the most interesting facts that you’d like to share with your classmates. If your presentation includes PowerPoint slides, please use a flash-memory to save the presentation - this is to save time in class & to insure that your presentation works properly with the projector. You must do your class presentation on the specific date designated to you. If you are absent on the day of your presentation, you will not be given a chance to redo it unless you were seriously ill and submit a medical excuse for your absence or were, may no harm come to you, detained by a valid circumstance. This medical excuse must be provided as soon as possible; otherwise, 3 points will automatically be deducted before you are given another chance to do the presentation at a later date.

You will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
