Course Content
PLPR 462 Range Reserves 2(2+0)
Historical perspective of range hema (reserve) system. Range reserves definition and objectives. Types and distribution of range reserves in Saudi Arabia. Establishment and management of range reserves. Grazing systems within range reserves. Plant and animal studies in range reserves. Grazing management planning in relation to range reserves.
Course Objective
The objective of the course is to provide historical background of an ancient management practice termed Hema (range reserve). Linkage between hema system, that is still practiced on some regions of Saudi Arabia and current wildlife reserve (of NCWCD) practices is provided.
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to:
- Have a broad image of hema system of range reserves.
- Have basic knowledge on best range management practices in range reserves.
Students Assessment
Students will be assessed as follows:
- A report on field trips (30 %)
- One mid-term exam (30 %)
- Final exam (40 %)
