Life Form

Tufted perennial grass with ascending culms up to 70 cm high. Leaf blades linear, 3-30 cm long.  Panicle bristly, erect or nodding, creamy or purple-colored. False spike, 2-15 cm long with seed units or fascicles inserted along a zigzag axis.  Each bur-like fascicle comprises a single spikelet or cluster of 2-4 spikelets surrounded by involucres of bristles

Often grows in disturbed sites but can be found growing naturally in rocky terrains

Habitat

Grazed by livestock

Grazing Importance

Can be useful as a cultivated forage crop
