Research Design (BA 698)
This course, targeted to Ph.D students, discusses advanced research techniques and designs as well as their applications to business problems. It contributes to developing the student’s skills in preparing the dissertation proposal and writing scientific papers.
The course objectives include developing the student’s ability to: acquire advanced research techniques in business administration, develop a research design, identify a research area of interest, define a research problem and objectives, highlight the theoretical and managerial contribution, write research questions, develop a methodology, conduct a literature review, formulate propositions and hypotheses, delineate a data analysis procedure and an interpretation plan, and discuss findings.
COURSE SKILLS AND OBJECTIVES:
1. Develop, define, and conceptualize a research problem. 2. Understand the research problem under examination, review related literature, and add your contribution. 3. Develop an operational model of the problem. 4. Acquire the knowledge, abilities, and skills needed to plan, organize, design, and conduct a rigorous empirical study. 5. Learn different type of research designs. 6. Develop an appreciation for the value of drawing conclusions from a valid and reliable empirical evidence rather than intuition. 7. Develop a valid and reliable measurement instruments/procedures in empirical research. 8. Learn how to collect, code, analyze, summarize, discuss and present empirical research data and results. 9. Develop skills for writing empirical research. 10. Apply statistical methods and statistical software package in your scientific research project. 11. Conduct a research (dissertation) proposal.
