Course Title Translation II
Course Number 411
Course description Unlike the previous translations courses (Eng 118, Eng 212), students in this course will translate passages of various sources and genres from Arabic to English only. Students will learn how to use the dictionary properly under a well-managed time frame.
Course Objectives (i.e. Learning Outcomes as specified in the Course Specifications) Students should be able to:

  1. Produce grammatically and structurally correct English translation of various unseen Arabic texts of different types.
  2. Communicate the connotative meaning of the original text as well as its pragmatic effect.
Textbook A booklet that contains different selected passages that vary in content, language, length, and genre is supplied by instructor.
Supplementary Reading Lecture notes relating to translation tips and guidelines, or certain grammatical rules are provided by the instructor based on the texts dealt with during each class as well as on the students’ areas of weakness or confusion.

No make-ups will be offered for quizzes with or without an excuse. Late submissions of take-home assignments will be penalized with a one-point-deduction each late day.
