321 صدل (Fundamentals of Natural Products-1​)

This course is designed to provide pharmacy students with required knowledge and cognitive
skills regarding the use of natural products and phytopharmaceuticals and give them the related
essential professional skills in the field of screening and quality control. In this course, the
student will learn: History and importance of natural products, botanical macroscopically and
microscopically essential characters of medicinal plants. The course will introduce the students
to the different biogenetic pathways of secondary metabolites formation and their classification.
The course provides students with a required comprehensive learning of biological, physical,
chemical, and pharmacological characters, extraction and isolation of natural drugs and
phytopharmaceuticals containing fats and fixed oils, terpenoids and volatile oils, and alkaloids.
The course will also cover a comprehensive study of abused drugs in addition to some poisonous
plants.
