نبذة تعريفية / مختصر السيرة الذاتية
Essam Abd El-Motaal is, from 2009 till now, a professor of Structural Geology and Plate tectonics in the Department of Geology and Geophysics, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Structural Geology from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt in 1990 and 1993 respectively. He joined Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1984 as a Demonstrator. In 1988-1989 Abd El-Motaal earned a postgraduate Diploma in Remote Sensing and geological survey from ITC, Enschede, the Netherlands. He joined Sabha University, Libya as an Associate Professor teaching Structural Geology and Geotectonics in 2004-2005. His teaching and research areas of interests include Structural Geology, Plate tectonics, Geotectonics, Geodynamics and Neotectonics.
He supervised several M.Sc. and Ph.D. dissertations and published more than 25 articles in the field of Structural Geology, Neotectonics and Geomorphology.
Prof. Dr. E. Abd El-Motaal had been awarded the Fulbright Scholarship in Saint Louis University, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA in 2002.

Visiting Professor taught a graduate course entitled “Neotectonics” in the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department, Saint Louis University, St. Louis MO, USA, , through the Fulbright scholarship, April-December, 2002.
Areas of interest:
- Structural architecture and tectonic evolution of the Red Sea Rift (specially its coastal plain).
- Structures of the Syrian Arc System.
- Tectonics and morphotectonics of the Gulf of Suez.
- Neotectonics and seismotectonics of the Gulf of Suez, Gulf of Aqaba and the Nile Delta.
- Using Remote Sensing techniques in studying the structures.
- Assessment of the natural hazards and Land-use classification.

شاركت بفاعلية في أنشطة الجمعية السعودية لعلوم الأرض ضمن سلسلة البرامج العلمية وقمت بالقاء محاضرة عن النيازك (ماهيتها و أنواعها و مصدرها و كيفية التعرف على أماكن ارتطامها بسطح الأرض) عبر منصة زووم والتي شارك في حضورها فئات متعددة من المجتمع سواء المتخصصين في المجال وغيرهم. مرفق شهادة شكر وتقدير من رئيس الجمعية السعودية لعلوم الأرض.
شاركت بفاعلية في أنشطة وحدة التدريب والعلاقات المجتمعية بكلية العلوم وقمت بإلقاء محاضرة عن الانزلاقات الأرضية (أسبابها – أنواعها – طرق مجابهتها) مع اعطاء أمثلة لما يحدث في مناطق مختلفة في المملكة العربية السعودية. مرفق شهادة شكر وتقدير من وحدة التدريب والعلاقات المجتمعية بكلية العلوم.
