311 PDS Preventive Periodontics (3rd Year Students) Credit Hours: 4 Course Director - 2006-2007 Course Contributor -2007-2008 Course Description : This course consists of didactic, pre-clinical and clinical components. It will cover the following:

The periodontium in health.
-
The etiology, the pathogenesis, and the diagnosis of periodontal disease(s).

Principles and techniques of disease prevention therapy.
-
Instrumentation, knowledge and practice of periodontal instruments.

Examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment of patients with early periodontal diseases. |

411 PDS - Advanced Periodontal Therapy ( 4th Year Students) Credit Hours: 4 Course Contributor -2005-2008 This course consists of a didactic and clinical component with four credit hours. It will cover:

The treatment of different types of periodontal diseases.

The interrelation between periodontics and related dental specialties.
-
Introduction to the surgical approaches in the management of moderate to advanced periodontal diseases
-
The role of occlusion in periodontal diseases and management.
-
The surgical aspect of implant dentistry and management of tissues around implants in health and disease. |

491 DEN-Comprehensive Clinical Dentistry (5th Year Students) Credit Hours: 10 Course Contributor: 2006-2008 Course Description: The course is designed to cover all clinical disciplines in dentistry. It is offered during the fifth year and consists of one lecture and four clinical sessions per week through out the academic year. This is a conjoint course by the four dental departments where contributors from all dental disciplines participate in both in the lecture and clinical sessions. A one-week Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course is given by the College of Medicine. Course Objectives:The course is organized to augment the clinical experience of the students, there by, providing them with and excellent foundation for patient care and clinical management.

The students should be able to diagnose conditions of the oral cavity and its related structures, using proper diagnostic tools.

The students also should be able to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for the prevention and treatment of oral conditions so that each patient can be maintained in, or restored to, a healthy, functioning aesthetic condition.

At the end of the course, the students should be able to perform competently preventive and therapeutic procedures which are used by general dentists in the treatment of patients. |
