يهدف هذا المقرر إلى الاستمرار في تدريب الطلاب على النطق السليم والقراءة الصحيحة المعبرة عن المعنى وقراءة الرسوم والجداول البيانية لاستخراج المعلومات اللازمة. كما يهدف المقرر إلى تنمية الحصيلة اللغوية للطلاب بالتركيز على المفردات والقواعد والتراكيب.

ويتدرب الطلاب كذلك على استنباط معاني المفردات الجديدة من خلال السياق و على تحديد الأفكار الرئيسية في النص.

ويتم تعريف الطلاب بأدوات الربط و دورها في إدراك المعنى.

كما يتم التركيز على الأسئلة والمناقشة للتأكد من فهم المادة المقروءة وينبه الطلاب إلى الكلمات التي تمثل مفاتيح فهم معنى الجملة و النص و كذلك إدراك الفكرة الأساسية والتفاصيل الموضحة لها.

    Reading courses generally aim at developing students’ ability to read and comprehend the main ideas and supporting details that are explicitly or implicitly stated in a text; recognize the text structure and words signaling that structure; to be able to infer the meaning of difficult words from context; and connect pronouns with their antecedents within a specified amount of time.

    This course aims at introducing students to and training them in reading strategies and skills. It will address the following skills and strategies: mechanics of reading, reading techniques (skimming and scanning), reading skills such as making inferences from facts presented in the reading selections, vocabulary skills such as the use of contextual, syntactic, and morphological clues to improve vocabulary comprehension, extracting general information, and separating opinions from facts.

Bonus: 5 marks for doing extra-reading
