My Graduation Project
My graduation project was translating a book of my choice. The book I chose was a self-improvement course written by Michael Fidlow. The book’s title was “Strengthen Your Memory”. I felt that this book would be of great benefit since all people nowadays including students suffer from bad memory or specifically the tendency to loose much information related to their educational, personal and everyday life.
The book discussed ways of improving our memory to a new, reliable, and dynamic one. It starts by informing the reader about his/her real potential, and then sheds the light on the classic methods which have been used to such good effect by successful men and women around the world.
The author guarantees that after reading the book, you will be able to remember numbers, people, jokes, facts, foreign languages, and much more information gained from everyday reading.
Wow!! Sounds interesting, right?!!
This is exactly what I felt. The book is really interesting. It depends on one idea; that we all have two kinds of memory: Natural and Artificial. By committing to the strategies provided in the book, you will learn how to re-organize your thinking, and in turn be able to strengthen both kinds of memory you have.
Translating the book was very enjoyable since it was full of interesting and beneficial information. The only difficulty that I faced at the beginning is the style of the translation. Arabic language is known as being one of the richest languages. It has strong vocabulary and style, whereas the book’s style was informal and direct. With the valuable guidance and useful comments I received from my supervisor, Dr. Sadia Al-Ameen, I succeeded in overcoming this difficulty and deserved the A+ grade.
The translated book is available upon request. Besides the translation, the project contains a detailed description of the stages of the translation as well as the difficulties faced by the translator. If you are interested, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
