BCH 472 Analysis of Biological Fluids

Course Name: Analysis of Biological Fluid Course No. & Symbol: (BCH 472) Credit hours: 3 (2+1) Course Grading : 30 marks distributed as following: 8 marks : average of quizzes during the semester 6 marks : average of reports during the semester 15 marks: for the final exam which includes theoretical and practical questions Course Objectives : 1)Identifying the biological fluids in the body according to the chemical composition and its biological functions 2)Learning ways to analyze and estimate the biological fluids in selective samples 3)Studying the causes and diseases related to these fluids. 4)Focusing on laboratory methods and the way of writing reports and discuss the results of laboratory tests Course Description : Types and distribution of body fluids. Samples collection and management. Urine: Formation; normal and abnormal constituents and their role in diagnosis of renal, hepatic and blood diseases. Digestive tract secretions: saliva, bile, pancreatic juice; faeces and their relevance to laboratory diagnosis of some hepatic, pancreatic and intestinal diseases. Sweat analysis and its relevance to cystic fibrosis. Amniotic fluid and its relevance to some genetic diseases. Composition, function and physical properties of semen; milk; lymph; CSF; synovial fluid; tears, aqueous humour and mucous. Biochemical diagnostic tests related to these fluids.
