  Profile

 Adel Ali is a professor of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, King Saud University. Graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1975 with Ph.D. in electrical engineering and worked as a transmission engineer in MTS, Canada. In 1978 he joined the Electrical Engineering Department King Saud University, and became a professor in 1988. He also worked as technical advisor to the Ministry of PTT Saudi Arabia (1980-1984). He is a Professional Engineer, Fellow IET, Senior member IEEE, chairman and technical chairman of several IEE and IEEE conferences, referee for IET and IEEE.

Presently, Prof. Ali’s research and studies interests focus on new technologies that have direct effects on coverage, capacity, and performance of wireless PAN’s, LAN’s and WAN’s.  Such technologies include: adaptive modulation and coding, multi-user detection, broadband and ultra-wideband, multi-carrier communications (OFDM), smart antennas, and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems.

His research concerns adaptive modulation and coding applied to mobile communications and wireless networks, secure communication and IT Infrastructure and converged networks. Research techniques include experimental, simulation, and theoretical analysis.

During 1992-2002 he was with Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, and carried several administrative responsibilities as Head of EE Department, Assistant Dean and Dean. He also initiated and chaired the Department of Information Engineering and the Communication Research Center, jointly with the Ministry Telecommunications and represented Oman in the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP). In August 2002, he rejoined King Saud University as a Professor of Telecommunications with the Electrical Engineering Department.
