The Effect of Breed on Allometric Growth Patterns of Various Body Measurements in Male Camels

ABSTRACT: 14 body measurements were taken from 167 Abhawi and 227 male Najdi camels and related to the development of their respective carcass weights. The growth coefficients determined showed that the body measurements increased relatively slower than did the carcass weight in both breeds. In Najdi camels, the length of neck, length of foreshank, length of hind shank and circumference of hind shank increased relatively faster than in Abhawi camels. The circumference of hind shank grew at a faster rate than the corresponding longitudinal gain.
