Course Description

General English 101 najm is a requisite English course for undergraduate students at King Saud University. It is an integrative course designed to help students revise information and points studied previously. This course focuses on grammar, reading, and vocabulary.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, English 101 students will be able to:

1)      Recognize and differentiate among the different parts of speech of English.

2)      Recognize and write sentences in three tenses (present simple, present continuous, and past simple.

3)      Increase their vocabulary related to specific topics.

4)      Develop their basic reading skills:

a.       Relate words to context (e.g. running water, home-made bread, and so on).

b.      Infer the meaning of words from the passage.

c.       Analyze material they read into grammatical sentence structures.

d.      Comprehend short passages and answer questions on them.

 

 

Course Requirements and Course Grade:

Attendance: Regular attendance in class is expected

Reading: Units indicated in the syllabus should be read before the lecture.


 

Distribution of points:

1.       Two midterm exams (each is out of 25)

2.       A final exam (out of 50 points), the final two-hour exam is cumulative and will have three sections.
