Clinical Toxicology (433 PHL)

This course will provide an analysis of general principles of clinical toxicology. The course is aimed at providing a clear understanding about the toxicant, toxidromes and the approach to affected patients. It also provides knowledge about the toxic effects of a number of important therapeutic drug classes. This course will provide in-depth information on physiological and pharmacological and toxic effects of chemical exposure during pregnancy and will provide special considerations with infants, pediatrics and geriatrics. The student will be able to recognize signs and symptoms of poisoning, characterize the type and extent of intoxication and develop a specific modern management plan. The practical part is devoted to case studies with emphasis on the treatment protocols adopted and their evaluation.
